Coastal Brown Ant
Coastal Brown Ants, also called Big-Headed Ants, are the species behind the small piles of fine soil that appear between pavers, along path edges and at the base of external walls across Melbourne. They nest in garden beds, under paving and hard against foundations, and colonies carry multiple queens, so an established colony can hold a wide area of a property. They also break the usual rule: this species prefers protein and fat, so a sugar bait sits untouched. We treat the active nests directly and run granular bait through the garden zone so the colony collapses at source.
